A man who raped, robbed, assaulted, and held his ex-partner against her will while he was under a restraining order faces a 36-and-a-half-year jail sentence.
Prosecutor’s Office is requesting this prison sentence for events that started early on September 30th, 2023, when the defendant, according to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, went to a nightclub in Petrer where the victim was, insulted and humiliated her, and violently took her bag. The trial is set for today, Monday 10th March, in the First Section of the Provincial Court of Alicante.
According to the prosecution, the defendant took the woman by the arm and hair and pushed her into the passenger seat of the automobile after seeing she had the keys. The woman constantly begged him to stop as he drove towards Alicante along the motorway, cursing and threatening her.
The accused stopped the vehicle in the Bacarot region at one point during the trip to sexually abuse the victim, who had repeatedly yelled at him to stop and refused to engage in sexual activity with him.
When the woman was able to exit the car and seek for assistance from a passing motorist, the assault came to an end.
Several weeks later, on October 20th and 26th, the man called the victim on various times to express his desire to reconcile. The defendant intimidated and humiliated her when she refused.
The calls were placed on October 26 when the woman was in the company of a National Police officer at the Victim Assistance Office.
The defendant is charged by the prosecution with sexual assault, unlawful imprisonment, violent robbery, threats, and a continuous offence of sentence violation.
Today is the start of the hearing, while Friday 14th March is the date of the second session.
