Alicante City Council issues a warning against the distribution of phoney QR codes throughout the city.
It has been reported that ORA machines have stickers with phoney QR codes.
They caution that they may direct users to phoney websites that steal bank account information.
As the council emphasises in their social media post: “It is crucial to ensure that the original QR code is not obscured by a sticker…”
According to municipal sources, the National Police received a complaint as soon as the facts were known. They also indicate that parking meter surveillance has been strengthened and that citizens are being notified about the alleged fraud.
