According to Emergency 112, a fire that began in a garage in Alcorcón (Madrid) yesterday, Wednesday 2nd April, has claimed the lives of two firefighters, injured fourteen others, including one who is critically ill, and poisoned a neighbour.
The event took place at a garage on Calle Lilos, south of Alcorcón, at approximately 4:00 p.m. Around that time, a neighbour lost control of his car and crashed after entering the garage of your building. The car began to burn straight away, and the neighbours claim that an explosion ignited the fire. One firefighter had died from a cardiorespiratory arrest and that another couldn’t be found, but his lifeless body was later discovered.
Javier Prats, a spokeswoman for 112 Community of Madrid, told the media that an inebriated neighbour was also taken to the Getafe University Hospital’s Burns Unit, where one of the injured firefighters remains in critical condition. Due to light smoke inhalation, another 14 people who were hurt were treated on the spot.
What started the fire in his car and then two others as he entered the garage? The building’s residents said that they fled the property after hearing a tremendous sound, ‘like if a car had arrived’ in the garage and would have collided with another one, followed by an explosion.
The intense smoke and heat that had accumulated inside the parking lot made it extremely difficult for the intervention teams to work when they first arrived. Firefighters examined the affected properties and the area where the fire happened after putting it out. Furthermore, the garage where the flames originated was ventilated.
The two firefighters’ deaths were “deeply” grieved by Isabel Díaz Ayuso, the president of the Community of Madrid. “We send our warmest regards to his family and friends.” On her Twitter profile, she wrote, “These two brave servants. May they rest in peace.”
