Miguel Hernández Airport in Alicante-Elche is getting ready for what is predicted to be the greatest summer season in its history. Beginning on March 30th, 2025, and lasting until October 26th, the airport’s summer season is anticipated to set new passenger records each month.
Thanks to the advent of Greece, Moldova, and Serbia, Elche Airport will begin the new season with direct flights to 30 countries for the first time in its history—three more than in 2024.
There will be 140 direct flights between the Costa Blanca and 28 airlines, including 10 new routes and two expansions to the yearly routes of two linkages that were started in the winter to Riga and Naples.
On March 31st, 2025, the route to Athens will be inaugurated, and more destinations suggested by various companies will be added after that date.
With 24 direct routes, the UK is solidifying its status as the airport’s top summer destination. Germany, with 15 direct links, the domestic market, with 13, and Poland, with 10, come next.
After increasing more than 2 million passengers in a single year, Alicante-Elche Airport achieved a new historic milestone in 2024 by surpassing 18 million passengers.
Two significant obstacles to its growth restrict its long-term viability and competitiveness. The first is the absence of a train connection, which is not anticipated to be built before 2030.
Second, the current terminal will be expanded, the platform will be improved, and a second VIP lounge will be built as part of the Alicante-Elche airport extension project, which was recently announced by AENA with the project’s tender.
The airport’s capacity to handle increasing demand, particularly during the busiest summer months when operations in specific time slots are nearly saturated, is constrained by the fact that building is not anticipated to start until 2027 at the latest.
