The Benidorm Local Police, in collaboration with its sociocultural association, started a program more than ten years ago to open its doors to children on a specific day each year. This allows the children to see the facilities, including the cells, get into the vehicles, or take a picture with a dog from the canine unit, which is a favourite part of the visit for most.
The experience was extended to a large portion of the Els Tolls neighbourhood yesterday afternoon when dozens of kids, some of whom had an obvious and immature vocation for police work, invaded every square inch of the police station with their families. In the police station’s courtyard, there were inflatables, chocolate, and even music, though this was confused with the sirens that were being tested all the time.
The head of the Local Police, Luís Arévalo, explained that this activity is part of the programme to mark the 181st anniversary of the Police. A programme that will have its most important day this Saturday with the exhibition in the Town Hall square and the institutional act in the assembly hall of the town hall.
For his part, the president of the Sociocultural Association of the Local Police, Rafael Urbano, has listed some of the initiatives that they develop throughout the year, emphasizing the charity race to raise funds for children with cancer.
For the Councillor for Citizen Security, Jesús Carrobles, it is about bringing the work of the force closer to the residents, one of the efforts that he says are being made by the communications area and that in his opinion is also contributing to making security one of the most valued variables of the city for the tourists who visit it.
